The thatched, half-timbered Wheatsheaf Inn at The Green, Raby (just down the road from Thornton Hough) dates back to 1611. It is definately on the agenda and you won't be disappointed!
The Thatch as it is affectionately known, has recently incorporated the old, redundant cowshed which has been superbly converted into the eponimous Cowshed Restaurant. Another, smaller dining area is in the conservatory, which links the Cowshed to the Inn itself and opens out into the most beautiful beer garden we have seen. 
The old main part of the Inn (see photo) still retains its oak beams, white walls and, of course, its thatched roof much beloved of artists, photographers and historians. The huge timbered roof frames have been carefully retained, as has much of the stonework, creating a delightful friendly warm atmosphere.  
The Cowshed offers bar snacks during the day and a full a la carte restaurant service in the evening.  A good selection of specialist real ales are available at the Thatch to add to the charms of this unique Inn hidden away in the beautiful countryside of central Wirral.

World-famous ice cream - you will find this a must and no-one should leave the Wirrall without tasting at least one flavour!
