Rushworth & Dreaper provided two models of Apollo; A and B. The difference between the two models is given in this advertisment. I have never seen a model A in real life, from the description, it seems likely that there is a single chest undernieth the Great manual which is divided between Great and Swell manuals. If anyone has ever seen or knows of one of these models, please do email me.

An advertisment which appeared in "Musical Opinion" for June 1913, contains two quotes from well known organists.

Edwin Harry Lemare (1865-1934), became an organist of international repute. He was at Sheffield, as Organist of both the Parish Church and the Albert Hall for only the six years 1886-92, but during that time he gave over 300 recitals in the North of England. He composed a few service settings, an Easter Cantata and a large quantity of organ music, his opus numbers running to over a hundred. Much of this is obviously secular in character as Lemare toured widely as a concert organist, latterly in the United States, where he died.

George William Henry Faulkes (1863 - 1933),was organist of St. John-the-Baptist’s, Tue Brook, Liverpool, 1882-86; and St. Margaret’s, Anfield, Liverpool, 1886-1933.

E. H. LEMARE, Esq.
-the World-famous Recitalist,

WRITES; - I cannot refrain from com-
plimenting you upon the great advancement
you have made in the introduction of the
Apollo Pedal Reed Organ. Unfortunately
it seems to be little realised that as much
benefit may be obtained by practising on a
properly designed Reed Organ as from a
large Pipe Organ. Again, when the voicing
and regulating are so artistic, much enjoy-
ment can be derived from such a thor-
oughly well-built Reed Organ as the Apollo.

Wm. FAULKES, Esq.
-the eminent Composer and Organist,

WRITES:- It gives me great pleasure to
write and tell you how delighted I am with
the Apollo Pedal Reed Organ which you
supplied me with. The Tone and Action
are alike excellent, and I can strongly
recommend the Apollo to Organists, both
for their own use and for their pupils.

I have recently been sent a copy of the original catalogue issued by Rushworths describing the Apollo organs, and highlighting some of the features of this particular model of reed organ.
Below are several typed excerpts from the catalogue which will hopefully, in due course, be reproduced here.

T HE   PROBLEM of securing satisfactory Home Practice is generally recognised by professional Organists and Students of the Pipe Organ to be the greatest stumbling block to artistic advancement and to the utmost enjoyment of time devoted to study.

Hitherto, the only alternatives to limiting Practice to the time and opportunities available for using a Church Organ, have been recourse to a Piano with Pedal-Board attachment, or to an American Organ.

Whilst the Piano combination affords opportunities for the development of technique, particularly as regards the Pedal-Board, its limitations are such that at best it can be regarded as only a poor substitute.

As to the familiar factory-made American organ, it is obvious that no Musician can be satisfied with an Organ which has not a feature in common with the Instrument of which he aspires to become a master.

The prupose of this booklet is to introduce to organists ans students the  'Apollo'   Pedal-Reed Organ, an instrument which, on the testimony of such eminent authorities as Edwin H. Lemare, Esq., the Recitalist, Wm. Faulkes, Esq., Composer and Organist, Caradog Roberts, Esq., Mus. Doc., F.R.C.O., Conductor and Adjudicator of the leading Eisteddfodau, and many others, is an artistic and worthy substitute for a Pipe Organ alike for Studio use and for small Churches.

T HE  'APOLLO'   is a Two-Manual and Pedal Reed Organ designed and built by Pipe Organ Builders in conjunction with expert Reed Voicers. It is identical in Scale, in Positions and in Dimensions with the Console of the modern Church Organ.

The   'Apollo'   Pedal-Reed Organs are built in Rushworth & Dreaper's Pipe Organ Works, under precisely the same condition, from the same materials and fittings, and by the same skilled Craftsmen as the Rushworth Pipe Organs. They are unreservedly guaranteed in every particular.

For Small Churches, Chapels, Missions, etc., the 'Apollo' proves both artistic and efficient. It is now being used in numerous places of Worship throughout the country and abroad, invariably giving the utmost satisfaction as to tonal quality, power and reliability, while the cost of upkeep is negligible.

For Studio Practice, the 'Apollo' fully meets the exacting requirements of professional Organists and students. Sitting at the Console for the first time, there is a sense of comfort; nothing is awkward or unfamiliar, the manuals, Stop jambs, Pedal Board and circular-fronted Bench, all stricktly conforming to the accepted Pipe Organ Standards.

Organ Students and other who have but limited opportunities of access to a Church Organ can pursue their studies on an 'Apollo' Organ with the utost pleasure and profit. E.H.Lemare, Esq., the Recitalist, strongly emphasizes the technical benefits and artistic enjoyment to be derived from the 'Apollo' Organ.

In Tonal Character, Stop Combinations and Touch also, the 'Apollo' closely follows on Pipe Organ lines. It has the same refinement of intonation, the true and mellow pipe-like quality and the artistic Voicing which admit of delightful Solo with Soft Pedal effects for Studio use and the full and broad Tones essential for Public Worship.

The Stops in all   'Apollo'   Organs consist of 61 notes each on the Manuals, and 30 notes each on the Pedals. To the Voicing of the Reeds and Stop Combinations, special study has been given to secure Solo with soft pedal effects of refined intonation for Studio use, or the full broad tones for Public Worship, as required. The Reeds are voiced by experts Voicers. The speech is particularly prompt, and the full Organ bright and pleasing compared with the dull heavy tone of the American Organ.

The Stop Jambs are at an angle of 45 degrees, their construction and position in relation to the Manuals and Pedals being strictly in accordance with Pipe Organ Standards. The Stop Knobs are of ebony with Ivory nameplates.

The Keyboards are of the modern Pipe Organ style with overhanging keys. The touch is delightful and the action perfect in repetition.

The Pedal Board is the latest R.C.O. Model with 30 notes CCC to F, Concave and Radiating. It slides into position without any attachments, and is easily removed when not required. A recent purchaser writes: "The 'Apollo' Pedals speak instantly, a thing I have never before found in Reed Organs." The Composition and Swell Pedals are of burnished brass and are easy and effective in action.

The Case and special circular-fronted Bench are of solid Oak; light or dark fumed finish as required.

The 'Apollo' Pedal-Reed Organ strictly conforms to the lines of the modern Pipe Organ console, and has nothing in common with the ordinary commercial and factory-made Reed Organ. Ornament for mere ornament's sake and make-believe find no place in the 'Apollo'. The single ain of the builders has been to provide an instrument worthy of the practical every-day service of the cultured Musician.

The 'Apollo' is even more complete than many Pipe Organs of similar scope. It is unreservedly guaranteed.

The Blowers. In addition to the usual Hand Blower, which is made to slide into the case when not in use, the 'Apollo' Organ is fitted with auxiliary folding Foot Blowers which enable the instrument to be played without assistance. These blowers neatly close up into the case when hand blowing is available. Special and ample reserve of wind power, the latest models being fitted with Three Feeders and Two spacious Reservoirs. Electric blowing apparatus can also be fixed at an extra cost.

General Construction. The Action work, wherever it is possible, is made of metal to guard against the effect of climatic changes. The whole of the parts are so constructed and put together that they can be easily and quickly dismantled for conveyance through narrow doorways and passages. Any Reed is accessible in a few minutes.
